Pressure Drops More…

| September 10, 2008 @ 9:19 pm | 17 Replies

The Air Force Lockheed WP-3D Orion in Hurricane Ike now found a surface pressure of 942 mb at 8:36 p.m. CDT tonight, and I don’t think it was actually in the center.

So Ike continues to strengthen…so far the winds have not kept up with the pressure drop. But convection around the center is expanding and I think it is only a matter of time til we have a dangerous category four hurricane on our hands.

Time:

Acft. Static Air Press:

Extrap. Sfc. Press:
941.5 mb (~ 27.80 inHg)
D-value:

Flt. Lvl. Wind (30s):
From 196° at 8 knots (From the SSW at ~ 9.2 mph)
Air Temp:
19.8°C (~ 67.6°F)
Dew Pt:
16.9°C (~ 62.4°F)
Peak (10s) Flt. Lvl. Wind:

SFMR Peak (10s) Sfc. Wind:
30 knots* (~ 34.5 mph*)
SFMR Rain Rate:
0 mm/hr* (~ 0 in/hr*)

The aircraft has turned around and is heading back into the storm. I don’t they got got a proper center fix on that last leg.

The early cycle models appear to show a little more shift to the east…

The threat to Houston is increasing. Perhaps even over into Southwest Louisiana.
