How about this one by Kool and the Gang?
“Oh, it’s too hot (too hot)
Too hot, lady (too hot)
Gotta run for shelter
Gotta run for shade”
Actually, our heat is nothing compared to the really nasty hot weather our friends over Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas have endured during the past two months. But, clearly the heat creeps up through mid-week as the ridge noses in here from the west.
TODAY/TOMORROW: We are projecting highs in the 97-100 degree range; the best chance of a triple digit high will be over West and Northwest Alabama where topsoil moisture is a little more limited. The warm air aloft will mean few, if any showers and storms during the afternoon hours. The heat index will easily top 100 thanks to the higher dew points.
THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Looks like the air aloft will be a little cooler, meaning the return of scattered showers and thunderstorms during the peak of the daytime heating process. Still pretty hot, with highs in the 95-98 degree range. Lots of hazy sunshine away from the afternoon storms.
THE WEEKEND: Moisture will increase a bit Saturday and Sunday should bring a general increase in the number of afternoon showers and storms, and the heat drops a few more degrees, with highs mostly in the low to mid 90s. This pattern should continue into next week.
EMILY: Forecasting Tropical Storm Emily, now in the eastern Caribbean, will be quite a challenge in coming days. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for details, but most of the better dynamic tropical models recurve the storm just off the East Coast of Florida this weekend, but our friends from Miami to Jacksonville will be keeping a very close eye on this one for sure. Emily looks a little better organized on satellite images this morning, but it is dealing with some dry air around the system, and will have to cross the mountainous island of Hispaniola tomorrow. So, the possibility of strengthening looks rather limited in coming days, and NHC keeps Emily a tropical storm through 120 hours.
We should point out the risk of Emily impacting the Gulf of Mexico looks very small at this point. And, the rest of the Atlantic basin is relatively quiet.
GULF COAST WEATHER: Look for mostly sunny days and fair nights along the Gulf Coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores today through Friday with just a few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the low 90s on the coast, and the sea water temperatures are running in the mid to upper 80s.
