Hurricane Elena 1985
(NOAA)
Do you remember this storm? I found some newspaper clippings I saved on it in some old boxes. I was in or about to start the 6th grade. The hurricane was powerful, but what made it particularly interesting was the fact that it was headed toward the AL/MS coast, then turned east oward Tampa/Cedar Key, then eventually turned northwest again and made landfall near Biloxi, MS on September 2, 1985. Some people had to evacuate their houses twice. The above satellite loop shows the hurricane’s non-predictable path.
