Summer is officially here and that means trying to avoid mosquitoes might seem impossible! Although mosquitos can be annoying while trying to enjoy outdoor summer activities such as spending time on the lake, there are a few ways to keep them at bay.
RADAR CHECK: Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are mainly over West and South Alabama this afternoon, otherwise the sky is partly sunny with temperatures mostly in the 88-94 degree range. Showers will end this evening, and tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 70s.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses as heat index values up to 109° are expected across much of Alabama. With hotter weather in the forecast, these advisories will likely be extended through the weekend.

HOT SUMMER DAYS: We have some classic summer weather for Alabama through the weekend. Hot, humid days with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s; and the risk of random, scattered showers and thunderstorms generally during the afternoon and evening hours.
Hurricane Beryl will directly impact Jamaica starting early tomorrow morning.
QUIET AFTERNOON: Showers are very hard to find across Alabama this afternoon… we see just a few small, isolated ones over the southern third of the state. Temperatures are in the 90s over West and South Alabama, but many communities over the eastern part of the state are only in the 80s thanks to an easterly flow.

Beryl appears to have peaked in intensity this morning. It remains a dangerous category five hurricane with top winds of 160 mph, down from its peak of 165. It will deal glancing blow to Hispaniola and then may directly hit Jamaica.
Hurricane Beryl remains a very powerful category 5 hurricane. Beryl is a historic storm, being the earliest category 5 hurricane on record in the Atlantic Basin, and only the second category 5 during the month of July (Emily 2005).

PLEASANT START: We are seeing some spots in the low to mid 60s across North Alabama early this morning for a nice, brief touch of fall. But temperatures rise quickly, and we expect highs in the mid 90s in most places again today.
Beryl continues to strengthen tonight. Top winds are 160, making it a dangerous category 5 hurricane.
At 7 p.m., the Hurricane Center raised the max winds to 155 mph and the pressure down to 938 mb, just 2 mph from category five status.
