While the central and eastern parts of the state remain quiet and dry for now, storms are already invading the west and southwestern portions of the state as we have hit the lunchtime hour on this final Saturday of 2024.
Significant risk of severe weather today across the region. Here is a detailed update on the situation.
As the final days of 2024 wind down, we want to look back on some of the stories that interested you the most this year – and one we think is worth another look.
A dangerous tornado outbreak is expected today and tonight across parts of the Deep South, which includes Alabama. Long-track, strong tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail are possible.
Radar at 5:54AM shows that much of the state is dry as we wake up this morning except for some shower activity over the southeastern parts of the state and over the Alabama Gulf Coast. No big deal for now, but that will be a different story as we move into the afternoon hours.

Dense fog advisory issued for parts of central Alabama tonight.
Tornado warning in effect for the Mobile metro. NWS: “At 821 PM CST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Mobile Regional Airport, or 7 miles west of Midtown Mobile, moving east at 30 mph.”
Moderate to heavy downpours approaching the Birmingham metro area. Likely to get wet at the Birmingham Bowl Soon!

Strong storms entering west Alabama
Showers continue, and periods of wet weather are likely for the Birmingham Bowl. Plus, a detailed look at the severe weather risk for Saturday.
Severe storms will move into Alabama Saturday afternoon and will impact much of the state Saturday night into early Sunday with tornadoes, wind, and hail.
