I am thrilled to pieces that the holidays are just around the corner. As a little girl, I always enjoyed this time of year. I enjoyed helping my mom decorate the house and, of course, helping her bake up tons of goodies. And by helping, I mean “tasting.”
Expect showers across the area today, which will be a common theme through midweek, when a strong disturbance will push a cold front through the state, ushering in colder temperatures.
The city of Prattville’s downtown, filled with shops and scenic spots, is known for its charm year-round, but when December arrives, the historic area transforms into a Christmas wonderland that attracts thousands from across the state every year — and this year’s display is expected to bring even more cheer to the holiday season.
Much of today will be dry across Central Alabama with clouds moving in through the day. A cold front heading in our direction will bring some showers to the area as early as late afternoon in the extreme northwestern parts of the area, but nearly all the shower activity should hold off until after sunset.
SEASONAL: Temperatures are right at seasonal averages across Alabama this afternoon with most places reporting mid to upper 50s. Mid level clouds have moved into the state, but the low levels remain very dry. We stay above freezing tonight; lows will be in the 38-43 degree range.

Today is featuring more clouds and temperatures near average with highs in the mid and upper 50s. Tonight will be cold, but not as cold as recent nights, expect lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s with passing clouds.
ANOTHER COLD START: Temperatures are below freezing across much of North Alabama this morning, with mid to upper 30s over the southern counties of the state. Expect a good supply of sunshine today with a high in the 55-61 degree range.
We have the latest U.S. Drought Monitor information. Heavy rain across southern Alabama led to widespread improvements to the abnormal dryness and drought conditions there.
SUNNY DECEMBER DAY: With a sunny sky temperatures are in the 50s across Alabama this afternoon. Tonight will be clear and cold with lows mostly in the 30s… some of the colder spots will see another freeze.
Tons of sunshine and blue sky across Alabama today, and though it is a beautiful day, it remains chilly with temperatures in the low and mid 50s.
COLD: Temperatures are generally in the 25-32 degree range over the northern half of Alabama early this morning, with mid 30s down into the southern counties. Expect sunshine in full force today with a high in the low to mid 50s this afternoon.

SUNNY, BREEZY, COLD AFTERNOON: The sky is sunny across Alabama this afternoon, but it is cold and breezy with temperatures in the 40s over the northern counties of the state; we have 50s to the south. A freeze is likely early tomorrow morning over the northern half of the state.
