Plenty of sunshine across Alabama today and highs are climbing into the in the 50s as the warming trend begins. More of the same tomorrow, but temperatures will be warmer with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
A family of tornadoes ruined Christmas for several Alabama families from Monroe County to Montgomery County on this date back in 1956.
Model infighting will lead to higher than normal uncertainty in rain chances around the period from Wednesday through Friday and we are keeping an eye on things for Sunday as there are some signs a strong storm or two could be involved. Nothing to worried about but something to stay tuned for.
Mild and mostly dry Christmas Eve, but keep an umbrella handy for scattered showers on Christmas Day. Watch for for an easterly wedge that could slow down our warmup by Friday.
Despite total sunshine today, temperatures will remain chilly, but a slow warmup is actually already underway that will culminate in 60s for most by late in the week. Expected showers Christmas Eve into Christmas morning.

COLDER: A new surge of cold air is pushing into North Alabama this afternoon with clouds and a chilly north wind. Temperatures are falling through the 40s over the northern third of the state this afternoon, but with a sunny sky we are seeing mostly 50s across the southern counties.
We are seeing sunshine in full supply with highs in the low to mid 50s this afternoon. Our winds are increasing out of the northwest at 10-20 mph, and those winds are driving in a reinforcing shot of cold air.
Thick fog has developed across parts of NE Alabama. Visibilities are down to 1/4 of mile or less for places like Scottsboro, Arab and Rainsville. Watch for areas of black ice due to freezing fog.
COLD: Some North Alabama communities are below the freezing mark early this morning; we note 30s all the way down to Mobile. The high will be in the 50s across most of the state this afternoon, but a secondary push of colder air will arrive later today, and temperatures could very well fall this afternoon over the northern third of the state with a brisk north wind.
Recent rains have helped the drought conditions at least a wee bit across the state! Still a long way to go and sadly rain chances over the next week not the greatest.
