Midday Nowcast: Umbrella Alert! Rain and Storms at Times; Rafael Gaining Strength
Today through Friday, scattered showers and storms are expected each day, rain distribution will not be very even due to the scattered nature of the activity.
The center of Hurricane Francine was located near latitude 28.0 North, longitude 92.7 West. Francine is moving toward the northeast near 13 mph. A faster northeastward motion is expected this afternoon, and Francine is anticipated to make landfall in Louisiana within the warning area late this afternoon or this evening.
Latest update from the NHC, the center of Tropical Storm Francine was located near latitude 24.9 North, longitude 95.6 West. Francine is moving toward the north-northeast near 8 mph. A turn to the northeast with an increase in forward speed is expected later today or tonight.
We now have Tropical Storm Francine in the southwestern Gulf, and it will bring some impacts to Alabama later this week. Francine is moving toward the north-northwest near 5 mph and a slow north-northwestward motion is expected for the remainder of the day, followed by a faster motion to the northeast beginning on Tuesday.
Today, we are seeing plenty of sunshine with highs in the lower 90s. However, an air mass change for Alabama means we are in store for some terrific weather, especially for August, the rest of this week across Alabama.
