Winds will gust to over 35 mph tonight as a strengthening surface low moves along the Alabama/Mississippi border. Winds may gust to over 40 mph at higher elevations.
There is a possibility of severe storms later today south of a line from Reform to Tuscaloosa to Clanton to Auburn, including the possibility of a few brief tornadoes. The threat should be between 4 pm and 1 am. Please keep this in mind as you plan your activities.
Alabama faces an enhanced severe weather threat on Saturday, including damaging winds and tornadoes. The window for severe weather in Alabama will be from 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. in western counties, between 4 p.m. and 4 a.m. in the I-65 Corridor and mainly after 8 p.m. in the east.
We will have no issues throughout the remainder of tonight and through the overnight and early morning hours in Central Alabama, as the showers moving across the northern parts of the area are light to moderate in nature.
More rain is ahead through the afternoon and overnight hours. Some strong storms could impact Southwest Alabama late tonight.
The forecast remains on track tonight for a slow-moving band of light snow to bring snow accumulations and travel impacts to much of the state on Tuesday.
No change in thinking late this evening on the light wintry precipitation situation across North Central Alabama. It should fall mainly as light rain, with sleet mixed in and light freezing rain in spots that get down to freezing by morning.
