The strong upper ridge in place across the Deep South is allowing temperatures to surge into the upper 80s and lower 90s across Alabama. These temperatures are around 20° above average for early April in Alabama; early April is feeling more like early June and record highs are likely to be set in the coming days.
A wind advisory is in effect from mid morning through late tonight across much of Central Alabama. Southerly winds will gust up to 40 MPH at times. Be cautious when traveling today.
Most of Alabama continues to see more clouds than sun as wrap-around moisture behind the low stretches down into the South Alabama.
North Alabama is seeing tons of sunshine, but along and south of the Interstate 20 corridor, we are seeing a mix of sun and clouds today.
There remains the threat of strong and severe storms this afternoon and tonight. The SPC has defined an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) over central, south, and southwest Alabama, along and south of a line from Moundville to Jemison to Alexander City, some cities included are Demopolis, Selma, Montgomery, Auburn, Troy, and Monroeville.
Rain has been ongoing through the morning hours and it will continue to expand in coverage and intensity as we head through the afternoon hours.
A front is bisecting the state today and is allowing a large temperature range across Alabama today with 50s over the Tennessee Valley, while 70s are common across South Alabama.
A front has drifted into North Alabama today and will be the near term player in our forecast through the weekend. The front is between Birmingham and Huntsville today, tomorrow the front will life back north into Tennessee as a warm front, and then on Sunday it will move back south into North/Central Alabama on Sunday as a cold front.
Today and tomorrow we are seeing more clouds than sun with some isolated showers possible at just about any time, especially over the northern half of the state.
More sun than clouds in the Alabama sky today and it remains unseasonably warm with highs in the low to mid 70s. Some showers are ongoing across the northern and central portions of the state today, but rain amounts for the most part will be light.
A cloudy and wet start to this final day of January as a cold front swings through the state, but the rain is relatively light and will be winding down through the afternoon and evening hours.
Dry with mild and breezy conditions and temperatures are climbing into the upper 60s and lower 70s. We are seeing a mix of sun and clouds, but clouds will be increasing through the rest of today.
Most of the rain has moved out of North/Central Alabama, with lingering showers across southeastern sections of the state. Highs today are in the low to mid 50s, right where they should be this time of year.
A winter storm warning is in effect today and tonight as an incoming winter storm is moving into Alabama producing accumulating snow. This event is going to be mainly for areas south of Interstate 20.
