| June 13, 2018 @ 3:39 pm

RADAR CHECK: As you might expect on a June afternoon, some people are getting wet, while others are enjoying a sunny sky. Heavier storms at mid-afternoon were over Clay and Coosa counties, and over parts of Southwest Alabama between Demopolis and Camden. Showers and storms are moving east/southeast, and will slowly fade late tonight. Temperatures are mostly in the 80s.

Muggy June Days; Scattered Storms

| June 13, 2018 @ 5:56 am

A moist, unstable airmass will remain over the state through tomorrow, meaning the weather won’t change much. Some sun at times, and the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. While most of the showers will come during the afternoon and evening hours, a late night or morning shower can’t be ruled out. And, heavier storms will produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and lots of lightning. Afternoon highs will remain in the mid to upper 80s.

Scattered Strong Storms Again This Afternoon

Scattered Strong Storms Again This Afternoon

| June 12, 2018 @ 3:27 pm

RADAR CHECK: Again this afternoon we have a random pattern of scattered, strong thunderstorms across Alabama. Storms today are moving slowly to the east/southeast, and are producing gusty winds, heavy rain, and lots of lightning. An outflow boundary approaching from the north could bring a band of more organized storms to Northwest Alabama over the next 5-6 hours; SPC has that part of the state under a “marginal risk” of severe storms (level 1 out of 5)….

NEW DAY, OLD FORECAST: More classic June weather is ahead for Alabama for the rest of the week. Moist, unstable air covers the state, and on a daily basis we will forecast a mix of sun and clouds with scattered showers and thunderstorms, most active during the afternoon and evening hours…. generally between 1:00 and 11:00 p.m. The chance of any one spot getting wet daily will remain in the 30/40 percent category, and where storms form they will be strong with gusty winds, heavy rain, and lots of lightning.

Additional showers and thunderstorms could form over the next few hours in random, scattered places. Temperatures are mostly in the mid to upper 80s.

QUIET THIS MORNING: As opposed to yesterday when a band of storms was producing flooding across Central Alabama, we have nothing showing up on radar this morning at daybreak. We do note some patchy dense fog, but that will dissipate by mid-morning.

Mix Of Sun And Scattered Storms In Coming Days

| May 30, 2018 @ 3:22 pm

A CALMER AFTERNOON: The radar is pretty quiet across the northern half of Alabama this afternoon in the wake of tropical downpours this morning that produced serious flooding across some of the central counties of the state. A few scattered showers and thunderstorms are over Northwest Alabama, and also across the southern counties. Flash flood warnings remain in effect for a zone from Eutaw and Greensboro to Marion, Clanton, and Prattville for runoff from morning rain. Some communities had over four inches of rain in just a few hours.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Our weather won’t change much Saturday; warm and humid with a mixture of clouds and sun along with scattered showers and thunderstorms, most likely during the afternoon and evening hours. The high will be in the mid 80s. Beyond that, our weather will be determined by the behavior of a tropical system in the northern Gulf of Mexico.

MUGGY MORNING: Again we are swimming in air featuring dewpoints up in the 70s this morning; all thanks to our friend Nate that blew through here Sunday. Precipitable water values remain over two inches, which is very high even for mid-summer. Today will be mostly cloudy with the risk of a few passing showers or thunderstorms; the higher coverage will come this afternoon and early tonight. And, we stay warm with a high in the low to mid 80s today.
