RADAR CHECK: Like recent days, we have your classic case of random, scattered, showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon. Heavier storms are producing frequent lightning, gusty winds, and small hail. They are moving very little, and some neighborhoods are getting drenched. But, other places are bone dry. So it goes on summer days in Alabama. Storms will settle down after sunset.
DOG DAYS OF SUMMER: Alabama’s weather won’t change much through the weekend… fairly routine weather for early August. Look for a decent amount of sunshine during the morning hours, then slow moving showers and thunderstorms will form during the afternoon in totally random, scattered places. Most of the showers and thunderstorms will come from 12:00 noon until 10:00 p.m., and rain distribution will continue to be very uneven.
MUST BE MID-SUMMER: All of the usual summer elements will remain in Alabama’s forecast through the weekend. Heat, humidity, and random, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Most (but not necessarily all) of the showers will come from 1:00 until 11:00 p.m., during the peak of the daytime heating process. Coverage of the rain should be highest tomorrow.
WATCHING DEVELOPMENTS TO THE SOUTH: A disturbance over the Northeast Gulf of Mexico is forecast to become a tropical storm within the next 48 hours, and will have a big impact on Alabama’s weather. We don’t expect much change in our weather situation today; hot and very humid with showers and storms forming this afternoon and tonight in scattered spots. Like yesterday, they will be strong with heavy rain, gusty winds, and very frequent lightning.
RADAR CHECK: We have scattered strong thunderstorms in progress across Alabama this afternoon over the eastern and southern counties of the state; they are moving southwest. Away from those storms it is a hot, humid summer day with temperatures mostly in the mid 90s.
HAPPY FOURTH: Classic summer weather is the story for Alabama on this Independence Day. Partly sunny, hot, humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms during the peak of the daytime heating process. Most of the storms will come from 1:00 until 9:00, meaning a reasonable chance most (but not necessarily all) of the fireworks shows tonight should be rain-free.

A few neighborhoods are getting heavy rain… the showers are moving slowly eastward. Temperatures are generally in the 86-91 degree range, and the showers will fade away tonight.
SUN, HEAT, STORMS: Hot, humid weather will continue across Alabama through the weekend, which is exactly what you expect in July. And, every day we will deal with “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. They have been few and far between over the past two days across North/Central Alabama, but they should increase in number today as moisture and instability values are expected to be higher. In fact, we have a few showers on radar early this morning over West Alabama.
RADAR CHECK: We have the usual array of random, scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon. With light winds aloft, they are moving very little, and most all of them will fade pretty quickly once the sun goes down later this evening.
CLASSIC SUMMER PATTERN CONTINUES THIS WEEK: This is a new day, but we have an old forecast to deliver. We start the day with a mostly sunny sky this morning, but during the afternoon and evening hours, random, scattered showers and thunderstorms will form in the moist, unstable airmass. Most of them will come from 1:00 until 9:00 p.m… and odds of any one spot getting wet are around 30 percent. The high will be in 89-92 degree range for most communities.
TIS THE SEASON: Alabama’s weather won’t change much through the weekend. Look for the typical summer weather… hot humid days with a mix of sun and clouds, and scattered, random showers and thunderstorms. Most of the storms will come during the afternoon and evening hours, although a late night or morning shower sure can’t be ruled out. No way of knowing in advance when and where the storms fire up; you just have to keep a close eye on radar trends if you have something planned outside. Afternoon highs will be in the 88-92 degree range today through Sunday.
SUN, HEAT, STORMS: Alabama will be in a routine summer weather for the foreseeable future. The main westerly winds aloft over North America are well to the north, but the daytime heating process makes the air over Alabama unstable, and once again we will deal with random, scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight. SPC has introduced a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) for areas north and west of a line from Linden to Calera to Scottsboro.

Heavier storms are producing gusty winds and frequent lightning as they move eastward. SPC maintains a “slight risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for Northeast Alabama through the evening hours.
