WINDY WINTER DAY: A tightening pressure gradient is bringing windy conditions to Alabama this afternoon; winds have gusted to 30 mph in spots. The sky is mostly sunny, but clouds will move into the northern half of the state over the next few hours.
TRENDING COLDER: A cold front passed through Alabama mostly in dry fashion overnight; today will feature a mostly sunny sky this morning, followed by scattered clouds this afternoon. The high will be around 50 degrees for the northern half of the state, with mid 50s to the south. Then, tonight, as colder air rolls into the state, a disturbance has the potential to bring snow showers and flurries to the northern quarter of Alabama.
BREEZY/COLDER: Lingering clouds this morning will give way to a sunny sky across Alabama today, but the day will be breezy and colder. Highs will be only in the 40s over the northern half of the state, with 50s to the south. A northwest wind of 12-22 mph will make it feel colder. Those winds will die down tonight, and with a clear sky we expect a low between 27 and 32 degrees early tomorrow.
SPRING CHILL: Rain and storms have exited the state this afternoon, but clouds linger over North Alabama. Temperatures are only in the upper 40s and 50s and many areas… the average high for March 31 at Birmingham is 71. The sky will clear tonight, and we project a low between 37 and 44 degrees early tomorrow for most places. For colder valleys and protected areas, there is a chance of some scattered light frost.
PLEASANT AFTERNOON: Temperatures are mostly in the low 60s this afternoon with filtered sunshine through mid and high level clouds, 15,000-25,000 feet off the ground. Clouds will increase tonight ahead of an upper trough to the west.
RAIN IS OVER; CLOUDS LINGER: Rain has moved out of Alabama this afternoon, but clouds linger. As expected, temperatures have been falling, and we are seeing mostly 40s now over the northern half of the state, with 50s over South Alabama.

WINDY, COLDER: Rain is still falling early this morning over East and South Alabama; that rain ends by mid-morning, and today will be cloudy, breezy, and much colder with temperatures holding in the 40s all day over the northern half of the state. The sky will clear tonight, and most places across North/Central Alabama will drop into the 20s early tomorrow morning.
DRY, BUT COLDER: Look for a good supply of sunshine across Alabama today, but temperatures will be much colder than recent days. The high over North/Central Alabama today will be in the 50-55 degree range, and a freeze is likely early tomorrow morning. The NWS has issued a freeze warning for North and West Alabama; we project a low between 28 and 32 degrees for most places.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is fairly widespread across Alabama this afternoon ahead of a cold front near the Alabama/Tennessee border. The air has become unstable over far Southwest Alabama, and a brief tornado is possible with storms there over the next few hours. Otherwise, just rain with little if any thunder for the northern two-thirds of the state this evening.
WINDS OF CHANGE: A few spots soared into the low 80s across Alabama yesterday; today will be a different kind of day following a cold front that passed through late last night. It will be much colder with a brisk northwest wind of 12-22 mph; lingering light rain early this morning will end, and the sky becomes partly sunny. Communities across the northern half of the state won’t get out of the 40s; for many places today will be 30 to 35 degrees colder than yesterday.
SEVERE CLEAR: Not a cloud in the Alabama sky this afternoon; temperatures are in the upper 40s over the Tennessee Valley, 50s across central counties, and low 60s are being reported near the Gulf Coast. A stiff north breeze continues to push colder air into the state, and lows will be in the sub-freezing range for most of the state early tomorrow. Most places across North/Central Alabama will see a low between 25 and 29.
WINDY, COOLER TODAY: Look for sunshine in full supply across Alabama today, but the day will be cooler with a high in the 50s, and a brisk northwest wind of 12-22 mph will make it feel colder. The winds will calm down tonight, allowing temperatures to drop into the 20s across North/Central Alabama early tomorrow morning… freezing temperatures are likely deep into South Alabama.
The sky is partly sunny, and the isolated showers from earlier today have dissipated. A cold front will pass through tonight in dry fashion, and will bring noticeably colder air in the days ahead.
