RADAR CHECK: Rain continues this afternoon generally south of a line from Wedowee to Marion to Butler; a few strong storms are in progress but there are no warnings in effect at mid-afternoon. SPC maintains a “slight risk” (level 2/5) for parts of Southwest Alabama, and a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) for the rest of South Alabama through the evening hours.

COLDER: Following a cold front that passed through Alabama late last night, we will experience noticeably colder air today. Temperatures won’t get out of the 40s over the northern third of the state despite a sunny sky. A north wind of 8-16 mph will make it feel colder. The wind will die down tonight, and with a clear sky we expect temperatures to fall into the 22-32 degree range early tomorrow morning.

ON THE MAPS: A cold front bisects Alabama this afternoon. North of the front, temperatures are only in the 40s and low 50s with a brisk north wind, but south of the front it is close to 80 degrees across the southeast counties of the state. A few rain showers continue in the colder air just north of the front at mid-afternoon… that rain will end soon and the sky will clear this evening.

RADAR CHECK: A band of showers has pushed into Northwest Alabama early this morning ahead of a cold front that will bring a significant weather change today. Look for occasional showers, and temperatures going the wrong way. We are starting the day around 60 degrees ahead of the cold front, but after it passes temperatures fall into the 40s with a chilly north wind.

SEVERE CLEAR: Dense fog this morning has given way to blue sky and sunshine this afternoon across Alabama with temperatures in the 60s, right at seasonal levels for mid-November in Alabama. A dry cold front will pass through the state tonight, and colder air rolls in after midnight. The sky will stay clear, and temperatures drop into the mid 30s early tomorrow. Colder spots north of Birmingham could see a light freeze.

COLDER: Clouds have moved into Alabama this morning, and we will have a little patchy light rain around today, tonight, and tomorrow morning as an upper trough passes through. Rain amounts will be very light, generally under one tenth of an inch… some places won’t get enough rain to measure. Temperatures will be noticeably colder today with a high between 47 and 52 degrees for the northern half of the state.

TURNING COLDER: A deep upper low will drift just north of Alabama over the next 36 hours, and will bring a raw, winter-like day to the state tomorrow. We enjoyed some breaks in the overcast today, but clouds are increasing this afternoon as clouds around the upper low move into the state. The sky will be mostly cloudy tonight and tomorrow, with periods of light rain and drizzle.

COLD FRONT OVER NORTH ALABAMA: We have quite the thermal contrast over Alabama this afternoon thanks to an Arctic front just northwest of Birmingham. Cullman reported 39 degrees at 2p CT, while on the south side of the front Birmingham was at 63. The front will continue to creep southward tonight, and the rain across the state will end from west to east over the next few hours.
