RADAR CHECK: A band of gusty showers, and a few thunderstorms, is lined up from near Wedowee to Prattville at 3:00 p.m. CT… this is ahead of a cold front that is pushing slowly southward. The showers have featured winds of 25-35 mph in spots, but no severe thunderstorms have formed across Alabama today as the main dynamic support remains well north of the state.

RADAR CHECK: Rain is falling across much of Alabama early this morning as a cold front pushes through the state. Temperatures have dropped into the 30s north of the front, but it is a mild morning for the southern half of the state where temperatures are in the 60s. The front will continue moving southward today, and the rain will end from north to south, followed by clearing this afternoon over the northern counties of the state.

ON THE MAPS: A strong cold front is over the northwest corner of Alabama early this morning… a band of showers is along the front over the northern third of the state. The front will race through over the next few hours, and all of the showers should be out of the state by 9-10 a.m. Then, the sky becomes mostly sunny, and a northwest wind of 10-20 mph will usher in cooler and much drier air.

CLOUDY, COOL, CALM: The sky is mostly cloudy over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon with temperatures only in the 54-62 degree range. A few sprinkles, or patches of light rain are possible through the evening hours, but most of the state will be dry. Mostly cloudy and cool weather continues through tomorrow night, although South Alabama should see a decent amount of sun during the day tomorrow. The high tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 50s again.

Huntsville reports 66 degrees at mid-afternoon, while at the same time Ozark is up to 84. The sky is mostly sunny, although clouds have moved back into Northwest Alabama ahead of an upper trough helping to push the cooler air into the state. Clouds will cover the northern counties of the state at times tonight; the low will be in the mid 40s.

These will drop southward in coming hours, and will be capable of producing small hail and strong gusty winds. SPC maintains a low end, “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for roughly the northern third of the state through the evening hours.
