CLOUDY OCTOBER AFTERNOON: clouds cover most of Alabama this afternoon with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s. Some patchy drizzle is over East Alabama… that will end tonight as drier air moves into the state.
A FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE LATER TODAY: Clouds linger over Alabama this morning with temperatures in the 60s just before daybreak. The sky will stay mostly cloudy today, and a disturbance could bring a few isolated showers to the state, mainly over the eastern counties.
MOSTLY CLOUDY AFTERNOON: While the sun has broken out in a few spots, the sky is generally cloudy across Alabama this afternoon with temperatures mostly in the 67-74 degree range. Nothing on radar, and tonight will be dry with a low in the upper 50s and low 60s.
RADAR CHECK: Rain lingers over parts of East and Southeast Alabama early this morning; that should be out of the state by 8:00 a.m. as the surface low (non-tropical) in the Gulf of Mexico moves eastward. Clouds will stick around for much of the day, although there could be a few intervals of sunshine this afternoon. Today’s high will be in the 69-75 degree range for most communities.
CLOUDS THICKEN TONIGHT: We have a layer of high, thin clouds over Alabama this afternoon ahead of a warm front and developing surface low over the northern Gulf of Mexico. Clouds will thicken tonight, the low will be in the 55-65 degree range for most communities.
BIG CHANGES AHEAD: A cold front is approaching Alabama; we note a large area of rain ahead of the front this morning over parts of West Tennessee and the Mississippi Delta. We actually have a few sprinkles over the northwest corner of our state just before sunrise. Today will be mostly cloudy, and we will bring in the chance of light rain for the northwest counties this afternoon as the front gets closer
RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers are fewer in number across Alabama today. We note a few strong thunderstorms over the southwest counties of the state at mid-afternoon; otherwise the sky is mostly cloudy over the northern half of the state with temperatures only in the 70s, well below average for mid to late May. The sky will remain mostly cloudy tonight with a low in the 60s.
CHANGES AHEAD: Rain is falling along the Gulf Coast this afternoon, east of an upper low that is spinning over Southwest Louisiana. The rest of Alabama is dry and mild with temperatures in the 70s. Clouds will increase statewide tonight, and we will mention a chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow.
BIG THERMAL CONTRAST: Temperatures across Alabama at 3pm range from 48 at Haleyville to 83 at Mobile; a whopping 35 degree contrast. Large areas of mostly light rain persist across the Tennessee Valley, and parts of East Alabama at mid-afternoon. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with ranging from the 40s across North Alabama, to the 60s near the Gulf Coast.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few showers in progress over parts of East and South Alabama early this morning…. generally south of a line from Mobile to Montgomery to Lafayette. Showers will remain possible for the southern part of the state today, but North Alabama will be mostly dry with some sun. Expect highs in the 60s.
ANOTHER BIG RANGE: We have another huge thermal contrast across Alabama this afternoon… temperatures range from the 30s across the northern third of the state, to 74 at Dothan where the sun has broken through at times. A few sprinkles are over the Tennessee Valley, but much of the state is dry at mid-afternoon. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with some patchy light rain or drizzle.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is falling in the vicinity of a cold front over the northwest corner of Alabama early this morning; the rest of the state is cloudy. We note a dense fog advisory is in effect for much of East and South Alabama, where visibility is very restricted.
RADAR CHECK: Most of Alabama is dry this afternoon with only a few isolated patches of light rain on radar. Temperatures are in the 60s and 70s, but cold air is just northwest of the state, where Memphis is in the 30s. The is mostly cloudy, and clouds will linger tonight.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is still falling early this morning across parts of Southeast Alabama, but that rain will end soon, and a decent part of the day ahead will be dry. Clouds will linger however, and we will see a big temperature spread with highs ranging from the 50s over North Alabama to the 70s near the coast.
