RADAR CHECK: We have widespread rain and a few thunderstorms across Alabama this morning. Look for occasional rain through the day; amounts around 2 inches are likely over South Alabama… places like Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Anniston can expect around one inch, and totals will be closer to 1/2 inch over the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama.
BIG CHANGES AHEAD: Temperatures are mostly in the 70s across Alabama this afternoon with a partly sunny sky. Clouds will increase tonight ahead of an approaching storm system, and rain could reach the western counties after midnight.
Dry today, but rain and storms return to Alabama tomorrow. For the rest of today, expect afternoon highs in the 70s with increasing clouds already ahead of our next storm system approaching from the west.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few spotty showers over Alabama this afternoon, but a decent part of the state is dry with a mostly cloudy sky. Temperatures are generally in the upper 60s. Rain will become widespread across the state tonight ahead of an upper trough/surface front.
RADAR CHECK: We have rain early this morning over parts of West Alabama… the rest of the state is mostly cloudy. We will have scattered light rain around today, followed by widespread rain statewide tonight and early tomorrow ahead of an upper trough/surface front.
RADAR CHECK: Areas of light rain continue moving across the southern quarter of Alabama this afternoon, but the northern half of the state is dry with sunshine in full supply. Clouds will increase across North Alabama tonight; lows will be in the 55-62 degree range.
WET, WINDY NIGHT FOR EAST ALABAMA: Rain covers much of East and Southeast Alabama this afternoon ahead of Hurricane Helene, which will make landfall tonight along the Big Bend coast of Florida south of Tallahassee. Rain will continue over the eastern half of Alabama tonight, possibly heavy at times.
Most of the impact from Hurricane Helene will come over the eastern side of Alabama over the next 24 hours. Rain will increase over East Alabama this afternoon and tonight, becoming heavy at times. The western half of the state will be mostly dry with just a few spotty showers.
RADAR CHECK: Rain and storms are most active across East and Southeast Alabama this afternoon. The rain is heavy in spots; a flash flood warning has been issued for parts of Chambers, Lee and Dale counties.
WET: We are forecasting occasional rain and a few thunderstorms across Alabama through tonight ahead of an upper trough and surface front. A few strong storms are possible this afternoon over East and South Alabama, where SPC has defined a “marginal risk” (level 1/5).
In the wake of Francine, a deep layer of tropical moisture remains across Alabama through Sunday, meaning our forecast will feature occasional showers and thunderstorms today and through the weekend. There will be good breaks, but when the rain comes it could be heavy.
RADAR CHECK: Rain now covers much of South Alabama as Francine nears landfall on the Louisiana coast, and rain will become widespread statewide tonight.
RADAR CHECK: Large areas of light rain continue to move across the southern 2/3 of Alabama this afternoon. Rain amounts have been light so far, and they should remain light tonight as a layer of dry air in the higher levels of the atmosphere is limiting rain rates
RADAR CHECK: Rain is relatively widespread this morning across Alabama south of I-20, and west of I-65. Rain will continue to expand this morning, but the most widespread coverage and heavier totals will be over the southern half of the state thanks to a weak low moving through the northern Gulf of Mexico.
