The New Year is starting off colder and we are seeing dry and sunny weather for today and it will continue through Friday. Highs the next three days will be in the low to mid 50s, while overnight lows will be in the lower 30s. Right at seasonal averages for this time of year.
Morning clouds have given way to afternoon sunshine across much of Alabama today. Temperatures remain mild with highs today in the low to mid 60s.
It is a mild end to the year with overall dry and pleasant weather across Alabama. Highs this afternoon are above average with mid to upper 60s common as we see a mix of sun and clouds across the state today.
We are seeing sunshine in full supply with highs in the low to mid 50s this afternoon. Our winds are increasing out of the northwest at 10-20 mph, and those winds are driving in a reinforcing shot of cold air.
SUNNY, COOL DECEMBER AFTERNOON: Temperatures are mostly in the 50s across Alabama with a mostly sunny sky. Tonight will be clear with lows generally in the 30s; colder spots will see a freeze.
A cooler, drier air mass has returned to Alabama today. We have clouds at the writing of this forecast, but we will see a clearing sky this afternoon.
More clouds than sunshine again today and rain will become likely statewide ahead of a cold front. A few storms are possible this afternoon, especially over the Tennessee Valley of the state, but severe storms are not expected.
More clouds than sunshine again today with well-above average temperatures this afternoon as highs climb in the upper 60s and lower 70s.
It is a breezy and cold day across Alabama; temperatures are in the 40s and with the wind, it is feeling much colder. By tomorrow morning a freeze is expected with upper 20s likely.
COLDER: The cold front is pushing through the southeast corner of Alabama early this morning where rain is still falling around Dothan; that rain will end soon. To the north, a few light snow flurries are reported over Madison and Jackson counties in the colder air, but temperatures are well above freezing there and there is no impact.
The SPC has increased the risk of severe weather for portions of Alabama to a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms this afternoon for Central and South Alabama.
Much needed rain is in the forecast for Alabama to start this week. It has been wet this morning and we continue to see areas of rain across Alabama at the midday hours.
Another surge of colder air is flowing into the state today and we are seeing highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s with more sun than clouds across the northern half of the state.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few sprinkles across the southern half of Alabama early this morning; the light rain will end later this morning as colder and drier air moves in from the north. For most of the state, the sky becomes partly sunny today
