After waking up with a widespread freeze this morning with morning lows starting off in the lower 20s to the upper 20s in North/Central Alabama, and in the upper 20s to the mid 30s in South Alabama, today’s highs will top out in the upper 40s in the northeast to the upper 50s with mostly sunny skies and winds out of the northwest.
COLD: With a sunny sky, temperatures are in the 40s over North Alabama this afternoon, with 50s to the south. A freeze is likely tonight all the way down to I-10. We expect 20s for North Alabama, and a low in the 28-32 degree range over the southern half of the state.
It is a cold and breezy day across Alabama, despite plenty of sunshine, temperatures are struggling to climb out of the 40s. Add in that brisk north wind and wind chills have been in the 20s and 30s today.
RADAR CHECK: Some scattered light rain continues early this morning over the southern half of Alabama, where temperatures are in the 40s. The weather is dry over the northern counties with mostly 30s being reported.

COLDER AIR DROPPING SOUTHWARD: Clouds linger across much of Alabama this afternoon, but the rain is gone and we will be dry for the next 5-6 days. Temperatures this afternoon range from the 40s across the Tennessee Valley, to the 60s across the southern counties of the state.
Some showers passing through Southeast Alabama; elsewhere is finished with the rain.
The rain and storms are out of here and the cold front is making its way through the state. This afternoon, temperatures are falling as a much drier and colder air mass blows into the state.

RADAR CHECK: A line of showers and thunderstorms is pushing into South Alabama early this Thanksgiving morning ahead of a cold front. The storms were well behaved overnight, remaining below severe limits. There is a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) for South Alabama this morning, but the overall threat remains very low.
The line of storms has made it southward and now stretches from Butler to Selma to Alexander City to Wedowee, and so far, the line has behaved on its path through the state. The severe weather threat has ended for those north of the line of storms.
Instability has started to increase across the southern half of the state, especially along the I-65 corridor and west.
As we are making our way to the midnight hour just before we yell out, “gobble, gobble” and feast on our favorite Thanksgiving foods, we do have to get through our little severe weather threat from now through the pre-dawn hours.
SUN AND CLOUDS: We have a wide range of temperatures across Alabama this afternoon due to a rather erratic cloud cover across the state. Where clouds are in place, temperatures are in the 50s, but where the sun is shining readings are in the 65-70 degree range.
