Showers Return To Alabama Sunday
SPRING FEVER: Temperatures are between 67 and 70 degrees across North/Central Alabama this afternoon with a cloudless sky. Doesn’t get much better in February.
Tomorrow looks another very mild and dry day with a mix of sun and clouds; once again temperatures will rise into the 67-70 degree range. We will mention just a small risk of a shower near the Tennessee border.
Clouds increase Sunday, and showers are possible as a weak front drifts down into North Alabama. The weather will stay mild with a high well up in the 60s.
NEXT WEEK: Rain becomes widespread Monday as a wave of low pressure forms on the front. The rain continues Monday night, and the latest global model runs suggest this rain will end early Tuesday morning. Then, a decent part of the day Tuesday will be dry with a high between 57 and 60 degrees.
Then, another wave brings one more round of rain to the state late Tuesday night into Wednesday; the GFS and the Euro (ECMWF) are in pretty good agreement with this scenario now. Rain totals from Sunday night through Wednesday will be in the 1 to 2 inch range for most of the state, probably not enough rain for flooding issues, and severe storms are not expected.
Dry weather is the story Thursday and Friday with a mostly sunny sky both days along with a high not too far from 60 degrees.
LONG RANGE: While the GEFS ensemble still shows mild weather continuing into early March, we are seeing signs the Arctic Oscillation (AO) and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) might try and go negative, possibly setting up a decent cold snap in 15 days or so.
