An extensive area of showers and storms continues pushing northeastward across Central Alabama at this hour.

It extends from Maplesville in Chilton County to west of Selma to near Thomaston in Marengo County to Gilbertown in Choctaw County. From there it extends all the way back into Louisiana.

These storms are in an area of increasing instability and strong southwesterly flow. Wind shear is high across this region as well. A tornado watch is in effect for Central Alabama for areas south of Tuscaloosa and Birmingham until 8 p.m.

A severe storm near Waynesboro will move into Alabama’s Choctaw County shortly. Warning is in effect.

A tornado warning is in effect for a radar indicated tornado southwest of Meridian.

A tornado is on the ground east of Clarksdale MS.

The airmass over Mississippi is becoming more unstable and a PDS Tornado Watch is in effect much of northern Mississippi. Storms are lined up just east of the Mississippi RIver, extending all the way to Greenville MS. These storms will continue pushing east through the afternoon into this increasingly unstable airmass and will be severe.

The surface low is now into Iowa. The cold front is approaching Little Rock.

Showers and storms will continue to pose a severe threat across Central Alabama through the afternoon with the potential for damaging winds and a few tornadoes.

The threat will continue into the evening hours as the upper trough and front approach. Look for additional tornado watches during the late afternoon and evening hours.
