Cold Front Arrives Tomorrow
BIG CHANGES AHEAD: While we are enjoying another delightful autumn day across Alabama, we are watching a storm system develop up north that will produce a band of heavy snow from Des Moines over to Chicago tonight and tomorrow.
This will drag a cold front down our way tomorrow; the day will feature a mix of sun and clouds, and band of light showers is likely along the front.
Moisture will be pretty limited, so rain amounts will be light and spotty. Before the front, temperatures should reach the mid 60s tomorrow afternoon (the average high for November 21 in Birmingham is 63).
COLD AIR BLAST: Much colder air follows the front tomorrow night, and we will be close to 30 degrees by daybreak Sunday. Then, despite sunshine in full supply, we won’t get past the mid 40s Sunday afternoon with a chilly north wind of 10-20 mph.
The coldest morning will come early Monday when mid 20s are likely as far south as Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, and Gadsden. Colder spots will drop to near 20 degrees.
THANKSGIVING WEEK: We project dry weather next week with a slow day to day warming trend. By Thanksgiving afternoon, we will enjoy a high in the mid 60s, and 70 degrees is possible by “Black Friday”.
Rain will likely move into the state over the following weekend (November 28-29); too early to determine if the showers will impact the Iron Bowl at Auburn. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for the high school playoff games tonight; clear with temperatures falling into the 40s. No risk of rain.
Alabama hosts Charleston Southern tomorrow (3:00p CT kickoff) at Bryant-Denny Stadium; the sky will feature a mix of sun and clouds, and we will mention the risk of a passing shower during the game. Temperatures falling from around 64 degrees at the start of the game, into the upper 40s by the final whistle.
Auburn will host Idaho at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday (also kicking off at 3:00 CT).. the sky will be cloudy at times, and a light shower is possible during the game (but not likely). Temperatures near 61 at kickoff, dropping into the upper 40s by the end of the game.
GULF COAST WEATHER: It looks mostly dry from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores all the way through Thanksgiving week, but nights will turn cold Sunday through Tuesday with morning lows in the 40s.
