Cooler Air Moves In For The Weekend

| October 8, 2015 @ 2:15 pm

RADAR CHECK: We have a few scattered showers over Northwest Alabama this afternoon… moving slowly to the east. These will dissipate once the sun goes down later this evening.

Otherwise, the sky is partly sunny with temperatures mostly in the mid 80s.

TOMORROW: An approaching cold front will bring the chance of showers and storms to Alabama. For the North/Central communities, the better chance of these will come from about 3:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight. Some thunder is possible, but severe storms are not expected. Rain amounts will vary a good bit due to the scattered nature of the showers, but most locations will receive 1/2 inch or less. Before the storms arrive, we expect a high in the low to mid 80s tomorrow with a mix of sun and clouds.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Any lingering showers should end well before sunrise Saturday, so the weekend looks delightful with sunny days, clear nights, cooler temperatures, and lower humidity. The high Saturday will be in the 71-74 degree range, and by daybreak Sunday colder pockets across North/Central Alabama will reach the 40s. Then, we warm into the upper 70s Sunday afternoon.

NEXT WEEK: Quiet weather continues; a cold front might squeeze out a shower or two Monday night, but moisture will be very limited, and for now we won’t mention this in the formal forecast. Expect mostly sunny days, fair nights. Highs 76-81, lows mostly in the 50s. Colder spots should see 40s early Wednesday and Thursday morning. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Tonight will be dry and pleasant for high school football games with temperatures falling through the 70s. But, tomorrow night, a few showers and storms are possible ahead of the cold front. A lightning delay or two is not out of the question; temperatures will be in the 70s.

Alabama will host Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair, with temperatures falling from 68 degrees at kickoff into the low 60s by the final whistle. Some will want a light jacket or sweater walking from the stadium back to your car after the game.

NATIONAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL: The weather looks very nice in Gulf Shores for the annual event this weekend; mostly sunny days, fair nights, highs around 80 degrees. The chance of a shower is so small we won’t mention it in the forecast for now. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.

TROPICS: Joaquin is now post-tropical in the North Atlantic on the way to Portugal; the rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.
