Cold Front Arrives Early Saturday

| October 8, 2015 @ 6:16 am

STILL WARM THROUGH TOMORROW: The weather won’t change much across Alabama today… we reach the mid 80s this afternoon with a partly sunny sky, and a few small, isolated showers could form this afternoon and early tonight. Most of the showers will be over North and West Alabama, and the chance of any one spot getting wet is 20 percent or less.

An upper low now over northern Mexico will lift out, and at the surface a cold front will approach the state tomorrow night. We will bring in the chance of showers and thunderstorms late tomorrow and tomorrow night, then ending very early Saturday. The best blend of new guidance suggests our best chance of rain will come from about 5:00 p.m. tomorrow through 5:00 a.m. Sunday.

Rain amounts should be generally 1/2 inch or less, and severe storms are not expected with the main dynamic support passing far to the north.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The sky will be mostly sunny Saturday, and the day will be cooler and less humid with a high in the low to mid 70s. Sunday morning will be cool with a low in the low 50s; cooler pockets have a good chance of reaching the 40s. Then, during the day Sunday, it will be sun filled with a high between 77 and 80 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: A cold front will pass through Monday night, most likely in dry fashion… the week looks mostly dry and pleasant with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the 50s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Tonight will be dry and pleasant for high school football games with temperatures falling through the 70s. But, tomorrow night, a few showers and storms are possible ahead of the cold front. A lightning delay or two is not out of the question; temperatures will be in the 70s.

Alabama will host Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair, with temperatures falling from 68 degrees at kickoff into the low 60s by the final whistle. Some will want a light jacket or sweater walking from the stadium back to your car after the game.

NATIONAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL: The weather looks very nice in Gulf Shores for the annual event this weekend; mostly sunny days, fair nights, highs around 80 degrees. The chance of a shower is so small we won’t mention it in the forecast for now. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.

TROPICS: Joaquin has become post-tropical over the North Atlantic; the rest of the Atlantic basin is very quiet.
