Heat Levels Slowly Dropping In Coming Days

| July 20, 2015 @ 3:37 pm

RADAR CHECK: Scattered storms are over far Northeast Alabama this afternoon, and from near Montgomery south. The central counties are mostly hot and dry, although a shower or storm could form at any time through the evening…

As I write this, the NWS in Mobile issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Central Baldwin County for a big storm just north of I-10 near Loxley.

Birmingham has reached 97 degrees… we note the last time we saw 100 (Birmingham) was back on August 23, 2013. Unlikely we see it for the rest of July, and hopefully for the rest of the summer, but we have a long way to go before fall arrives.

REST OF THE WEEK: The center of the heat ridge will drift westward, and with lower heights and cooler air aloft, the door will be open for a better coverage of showers and storms on a daily basis, along with lower heat levels. Highs will drop mostly in the low 90s tomorrow through Friday, and we might have a day when we don’t get out of the 80s if showers form early enough.

Understand it won’t rain everywhere each day, but there is a pretty good chance any one spot will see at least one or two decent downpours tomorrow through Friday. Away from the storms, the sky will be partly sunny, and humidity levels will stay high.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The last weekend of July looks classic, with partly sunny days, fair nights, and the risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. Highs will be in the 93-96 degree range.

And, similar weather into early next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily through the upcoming weekend, with the usual risk of a passing storm from time to time. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the upper 80s, with mid 90s inland. Sea water temperatures are in the mid 80s. Below is a look at Destin earlier today from @bamabobblehead

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains very quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the week.
