Precipitation is increasing over Mississippi at this hour, mainly along and north of US-82. This activity is moving east at 30 mph and will push into Northwest and North Central Alabama beginning around 615 p.m. It will reach
…western Lamar County around 615 p.m.
…western Fayette County around 645 pm and Fayette a short time thereafter
…Northwestern Tuscaloosa Counties by 7 pm
…Western Walker County around 730 pm
…Western Jefferson/western Cullman Counties around 8 pm.

Warmer air is moving in from the southwest. It is 41F at Tuscaloosa and 34F at the Shelby County Airport. But for areas in the Winter Weather Advisory, the temperatures may still not be above freezing at the onset of the precipitation and more freezing rain could occur. This can cause serious traffic problems in a very short time as we have seen today.

To the east and north, travel is hazardous in spots. IN the Winter Storm Warning area of North Alabama including Madison, Jackson and DeKalb Counties, snow is widespread and roads are impassable. There are numerous accidents across parts of northern Jefferson, Cullman, Blount, St. Clair, Etowah, St. Clair and Talladega Counties. Check road conditions carefully if must travel before temperatures creep above freezing later this evening.
