RADAR CHECK: Some light rain and drizzle continues to fall this afternoon, mainly over the eastern half of the state. It is a day with low hanging clouds and dense fog; even at mid-afternoon visibility is very restricted over parts of North Alabama. Temperatures are generally in the low to mid 50s.

MID-WEEK: Looks like the low cloud deck over the state won’t be going anywhere due to isentropic lift near a weak cold front over North Alabama that will become nearly stationary. Warm, moist air will ride up and over a shallow layer of cooler air near the surface tomorrow and Wednesday. Both days will be cloudy, and while there could be a little drizzle, the chance of measurable rain is very low.

The weather will be cool tomorrow and Wednesday with afternoon highs in the 45 to 50 degree range for most places.

A wave in the Gulf of Mexico could produce a little rain Thursday for places like Mobile, Gulf Shores, and Panama City, but up this way the day still looks dry, although once again the clouds will hang tough. If we are lucky, the sun might break through late Thursday afternoon.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Finally, some brighter and warmer weather. We expect mostly sunny days and fair nights during this three day stretch; we reach the mid 50s Friday, followed by low 60s Saturday and Sunday. Sure looks like a very, very nice weekend.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The 12Z run of the GFS suggests the next chance of rain will come around Wednesday or Thursday of next week (January 22-23), and we still see no sign of any bitterly cold Arctic air.
