TOO COLD FOR NOVEMBER: Don’t forget, the average high for Birmingham today is 64, and the average low is 41… that will give you an idea of how low these temperatures are compared to “normal” expectations in the middle of November. Many North Alabama communities aren’t out of the 30s this afternoon.

Temperatures-5

With a clear sky tonight, we project a low between 18 and 22 degrees early tomorrow morning, and with a north wind of 6-12 mph, the wind chill index could drop briefly below 10 degrees at times overnight. Birmingham’s record low for November 18 is 20 degrees (set in 1959), and that is very much in danger.

Tomorrow will be sunny but cold with a high only in the mid 30s. And, tomorrow night will be very cold again; the wind goes calm, and we expect a pretty big spread Wednesday morning. Colder valleys and protected areas across North Alabama will see mid teens, with lows in the mid 20s on ridge tops.

The good news is that a warming trend begins Wednesday afternoon with a good supply of sunshine with a high in the upper 40s.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: The warm-up continues Thursday with a decent amount of sun and a high in the 50s. The latest GFS run backs off on the idea of rain Friday; we will just mention an outside risk of a shower for now, and we have a chance of seeing a 60 degree high Friday afternoon.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday continues to look dry and pleasant; mixed sun and clouds with a high in the low 60s. But, we will need to mention a good chance of showers and thunderstorms late Saturday night into Sunday, and the GFS continues to show a setup favorable for strong, and possibly severe thunderstorms across all of Alabama. Still too early to be specific and to really define the threat; just something to watch as the weekend gets closer. A chance we see 70 degrees Sunday afternoon as the warming trend continues.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Rain ends Monday, and at the moment the weather looks cool and dry Tuesday through Friday, with highs around 50, and lows around 30. But, this is out there in the “land of voodoo”, and things could easily change. Take some time to see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
