Looks/Feels Like Summer

RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers are pretty hard to find across most of Alabama this afternoon, although one cluster of strong storms is near Gadsden as I write this.
Temperatures are mostly in the mid to upper 80s, and the sky is partly sunny away from showers. The isolated showers will end this evening and the will be mostly fair overnight.
TOMORROW/THURSDAY: Another weak wave aloft will impact the state with a general increase in the number of showers and storms both days. The NAM is printing POPS (probability of precipitation) in the 80% range tomorrow around here with a high only in the low 80s… this seems a little overdone, but we will mention scattered to numerous showers and storms both days with the sky occasionally cloudy. Highs will be in the mid 80s.
THE WEEKEND: Looks like routine summer weather… partly sunny days with the risk of a few scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs 87-90. Pretty much you expect at the end of June.
NEXT WEEK: Models are beginning to agree that high pressure aloft will strengthen across the Deep South, and this should mean fewer showers and storms and hotter afternoons. Afternoon highs should rise into the low 90s… maybe even mid 90s in a few spots. While there is always the risk of an afternoon in this pattern, they should be pretty widely spaced due to the warm air aloft and the subsidence associated with the ridge aloft. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
GULF COAST WEATHER: About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day from Panama City to Gulf Shores through the weekend with a passing storm from time to time. Highs along the immediate coast will remain in the upper 80s. The sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 84 degrees.
TROPICS: All remains quiet across the Atlantic basin and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.
