Early Afternoon Update
Showers and storms are ongoing across much of northern Alabama this afternoon and we will continue to see additional convection develop. Storms will intensify in the very unstable, moisture-rich air mass that is in place. There is more than enough instability present to support strong and severe storms.
We also continue to watch a MCS in Arkansas that is producing numerous severe thunderstorm warnings, as it is moving towards the east-southeast. Along the front edge of this MCS, damaging straight-line are occurring and are capable of bringing down trees and power lines.
Like we saw yesterday across northern portions of the state, damaging straight-line winds are the greatest threat for today. Other concerns with storms that develop will be hail, torrential rainfall, that could cause some isolated flash flooding, and frequent lightning. Storms will persist through the afternoon and evening hours, before slowly winding down during the overnight hours.
Nearly the entire state remains under a risk of severe weather, and all of northern Alabama is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7PM this evening.
