Severe Storms Moving Across Alabama
The leading edge of the MCS is pushing into the northwestern counties of the state. Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect, and these will continue to be issued along the front edge of this system where the most intense storms are occurring. This MCS continues to race off towards the east-southeast and will be crossing the northern portions of Alabama. Along the leading edge of the system, storms are capable of producing wind gusts over 70 mph.
We are watching additional storms developing out ahead of this main line and these could reach severe limits rapidly as the atmosphere is primed for strong and severe storms. All storms will be capable of reaching severe limits with damaging straight-line winds and large hail. Be mindful of the very heavy rainfall as well as the frequent lightning that is occurring with these storms.
Remember that much of North-Central Alabama remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9PM this evening.
