RADAR CHECK: A handful of isolated showers are over the northern third of Alabama this afternoon, but like recent days, a majority of the state is rain-free. The weather is very warm and hazy; temperatures are generally between 87 and 90 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds.
We do note a cluster of strong thunderstorms over downtown Atlanta resulting in a rain delay at Turner Field, where the Braves are hosting the Red Sox.
TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: The upper low west of Alabama is expected to weaken and lift out to the northeast before having a big impact on our state, but it could bring a slightly better coverage of showers and storms to our western counties Wednesday.
Otherwise, we don’t expect much change in our weather. Partly sunny, very warm, hazy days with the risk of a few scattered showers and storms, mostly likely during the afternoon and evening hours. But, a rogue morning shower or storm can’t be ruled out. Afternoon highs will stay generally in the 87 to 90 degree range.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The 12Z GFS suggests a “back door” type front will move down through North Alabama Saturday, with some risk of scattered showers and storms, followed by drier air over the northern half of the state Sunday. We all know fronts can have a hard time making it through this part of the world in early June, so not totally convinced we go rain-free just yet for Sunday. Highs will remain in the upper 80s and low 90s.
GULF COAST WEATHER: Sunny weather continues tomorrow from Panama City west to Gulf Shores. A few scattered showers and storms are possible Wednesday through the weekend, but still you can expect about 7 to 9 hours of sunshine each day. Highs on the coast will be in the 80s, but closer to 90 inland. Sea water temperatures are very close to 80 degrees.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. This week’s episode will be produced Thursday night at 8:30p CT.
