Hot Afternoons Continues; Isolated Storms
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; we are on a “one a day” holiday schedule through Monday**
SUMMER’S UNOFFICIAL START: Time to bring on the Memorial Day weekend, the time of the year when summer begins for Alabama (at least in our minds), and the spring tornado season fades away.
Overall, the weather won’t change much through Monday. Afternoons will stay hot with highs between 87 and 90, and nights will be clear with lows in the 60s.
Humidity levels will slowly rise, and we can’t rule out a few widely scattered showers and storms over the next few days, but many places will stay dry. This is model output from the high resolution NAM, valid at 7p CT Sunday…
The chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow and Sunday is about one in five.
NEXT WEEK: Highs should drop back into the mid 80s by the end of the week, with a general increase in the number of scattered showers and storms as the upper ridge overhead weakens a bit.
GULF COAST WEATHER: Sunny days, fair nights through Monday. Highs on the immediate coast in the low 80s, and close to 90 degrees inland. Sea water temperatures are now in the 77-81 degree range from Panama City over to Gulf Shores.
EASTERN PACIFIC: The first tropical storm of the season in the East Pacific, called Amanda, formed this morning well west of the Mexican coast. It is expected to become a hurricane soon, but it is no threat to land. The Atlantic season begins June 1 (the East Pacific season started May 15).
