SNOW FADES WITH THE SUN: A strong February sun has melted most of the snow across North Alabama this afternoon as temperatures are near 50 degrees in most places. It is colder up in the Tennessee Valley, with low 40s in a few communities.

COLD FRONT ON THE WAY: Clouds will increase tomorrow ahead of a cold front; the warm-up continues with a high in the upper 50s. A band of showers will pass through tomorrow evening near the front; the main window for showers will come from about 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Rain amounts of 1/4 to 1/2 inch are likely.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: No rain for the weekend, but Saturday will be somewhat colder behind the Friday night front with a high in the upper 40s. Sunday, however, will feature a mild afternoon as we rise into the low 60s. Expect a sunny sky both days.

SPRING PREVIEW NEXT WEEK: The big pattern change we have been advertising will bring spring-like warmth into Alabama. We reach the upper 60s Monday, and the 12Z GFS is suggesting low 70s around here Tuesday through Thursday. A weak front could bring a few showers Monday night, but rain amounts should be light and spotty.

REST OF FEBRUARY: The GFS continues to advertise a good rain/thunderstorm event around February 23, followed by a quick pop of colder air. But, overall, temperatures should be above average over the next 15 days. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
