Watching the Radar and Temps

| February 11, 2014 @ 1:12 am

We are at the onset of a winter weather mess across the area. A variety of precip is falling across Alabama this morning.

A look the radar, shows just how fine a line between liquid and fronzen precip we are seeing across the state. A lot of reports via social media are verifying what we are seeing on the radar.

Sleet and snow being reported along and north of U.S. 278. With large snowflakes falling in and around Cullman County and throughout the Tennessee Valley.  Already see accumulations in these areas. The skycams up there are showing a lot of the white stuff this morning.

We are hearing of a rain/sleet/snow mix to the south of that. Sleet being reported in Guin, Jasper, and Fayette. It is coming down fast and elevated surfaces are becoming slick quickly. Even a mix of precip now getting into northern Jefferson County.

Currently all rain along the Interstate 20 corridor and temps are hovering just above freezing. Most current observations in this area had Birmingham’s temps at 34, Tuscaloosa was down one degree to 35 and Anniston was down one degree to 36.

Over the next few hours, we will see temps continue slowly drop and we will begin to transition to frozen precip in theses areas. It is recommended that no one be out on the roads as travel will begin to be impacted as road conditions are starting to deteriorate.
