For Your Saturday Night
It hasn’t been a bad Saturday across much of Central Alabama. We did start the day off with some winter weather precip, but that ended during the morning hours and we even started to see some peeks of sunshine across the area during the afternoon. After being right around the freezing mark this morning, most locations warmed into the upper 40s and lower 50s.
As we head into your Saturday night, we will continue to see gradual clearing across the state and we will cool back off. Many locations in Central Alabama will head back down towards the freezing mark. As we look at forecast lows for tomorrow morning, we see that many locations will be in the lower to mid 30s, with Birmingham coming in right at 32 degrees.
Now for next week. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all the counties shaded in blue below. At the writing of this post, the only counties in Alabama included in this watch were: Lamar, Marion, Winston, Walker, Fayette, Blount, Etowah, and Cherokee. This would include the cities of Centre, Gadsden, Oneonta, Jasper, Fayette, Vernon, Haleyville, and Hamilton. At this time, it does not include in areas along and south of Interstate 20, which includes Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, Montgomery, Auburn, Clanton, and Demopolis.
As we head through the overnight and into tomorrow, it is likely more counties in northern Alabama, southern Tennessee, and northern Georgia will be added to the watch. This is not for this weekend, and is valid for Monday Night into Tuesday Morning. We will NOT have any winter weather worries for the rest of this weekend in Central Alabama. Sunday will feature mostly sunny skies and many locations in Central Alabama will be flirting with that 60 degree mark.
Tomorrow we will still be looking at the upcoming system and trying to get the most accurate forecast for timing and location out. We have time to watch this event all day tomorrow and Monday. Once again, Monday night is when we expect to see the chance for wintry precip across north-central Alabama.
