A Slow Go, But Improving Conditions Ahead
With clear skies across almost all of Alabama, you can make out the snowfall still in place across Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and even Northwest Florida!
It is 25F at Tuscaloosa and Birmingham at 9 a.m. with 18F at Anniston. Overnight lows included 9F at Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Calera. It was 6F at Anniston and 3F at Decatur. Russellville checked in with -1F. It was 0F at Valley Head.
The sun will warm things above freezing by 11 or 12 o’clock. The sun and dry air will continue to work on the roads.
In the Birmingham area, many secondary roads still are snow covered with a slick ice glaze in many spots. Many primary roads have at least one lane that is snow covered as well.
If you can delay your travel until later this afternoon, that will help keep problems to a minimum until roads have had the chance to clear a bit more.
It’s still a slow go on I-65, US-280 and much of I-459 this morning. There are still big problems along I-20 east of Birmingham.
If you do have to drive, take it slow, leave plenty of distance between you and other cars, and try not to brake or change directions while on ice.
So, things are improving, but we have a ways to go yet.
