Sleet/Snow Increasing
The airmass over Alabama is very dry this morning, with dewpoints at or below across Central Alabama. But the airmass will moisten through the morning as moisture rides up and over the cold airmass in place. You can expect snow or sleet changing to snow increasing during the morning hours.
The NWS warns that there could be crippling ice accumulations over a part of East Central Alabama including Pike, Barbour, Bullock and Russell Counties starting late this morning and continuing into this afternoon. This activity may extend into southern Montgomery and Macon Counties as well. Folks in these areas need to prepare early this morning for one quarter inch of ice, which will prevent driving and cause power outages.
We are already seeing increasing sleet over West Alabama over parts of Sumter, southern Greene, Hale, Marengo, Perry and northwestern Dallas Counties.
