Rain Ending, Turning Cold
For the most part, a majority of us are done with the rain for today. The rain that remains is moving east out of the state. We still have a few areas of very light rain and drizzle across central portions of the state, but that will be ending soon.
The clouds will hang around the next few hours, but we do expect to see some sun this afternoon as clearing is ongoing across the Mississippi Delta, with even a few breaks into western Alabama.
The main story for the rest of today will be the bitterly cold arctic air that is moving into Alabama. A very strong cold front is now into western portions of the state and will continue to move through the state very rapidly today. The 40s and 50s across much of the state right now, will soon give way to the 30s that we are already seeing in northwestern portions of the state. We have reached our highs for today and the temperatures will only drop the rest of the afternoon. Behind the front, a howling wind will begin to blow out of the northwest and wind chills will certainly become an issue heading into the overnight hours. We are expecting lows in the teens by tomorrow morning with wind chills flirting with zero.
