Rain and Rumbles of Thunder Continue

| December 8, 2013 @ 7:37 pm

Moderate, to heavy rain at times, continues to fall across much of the northern half of the state. The rain has impacted areas along the Interstate 59 corridor all day, but has started to fill-in to the south. We are still seeing some flashes of lightning as well as hearing some rumbles of thunder in some of the more intense areas of convection.

The rain continues to lift towards the northeast, but it will persist through the overnight hours. We are seeing the rain taper off some across Central Mississippi, and we could similar conditions across Alabama later, but additional showers and storms will likely develop throughout the night. Temperatures within the areas seeing the rain are well into the 40s and 50s and will not change much overnight; there is no threat of seeing wintry precip across Alabama tonight.

It has been a very wet day across Central Alabama. The rain totals have started to add up and a few areas of rising water are being reported. The main issue is going to be some of the local streams and the NWS has issued a flood warning for portions of Sumter County. The details and location of this warning can be found below.
