A Messy Evening
Heavy rain continues to fall across Central Alabama this evening. Still some rumbles of thunder ongoing, but luckily no severe weather and no worries with winter weather precip. Persistent rain is causing a mess on the local roadways as the heavy rain has lead to quite a bit of standing water. Numerous wrecks have been reported throughout the Birmingham Metro and the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport had a ground stop for a short-time earlier this afternoon. That has since ended, but there are several delayed flights in and out of the airport.Use caution and take your time if you are out and about this evening.
Rain continues to shift slowly to the east and is now affecting areas near Rockford, Clanton, Sylacagua, and Ashland. Rain has been falling for many locations across north and central Alabama throughout the day. Many areas have seen a soaking rain today and the graphic below shows how much rain has fallen. Radar estimates in portions of West Alabama are over 2 inches for today. With more rain expected to develop during the overnight hours, we will have to watch a few areas that could see a threat for some isolated flooding.
