Cloudy but Dry Today

High cirrus clouds cover much of the Southeast US this morning, so I expect to see a mostly cloudy day today as the sun is filtered through the fairly extensive deck of cirrus clouds. It will be mild for the afternoon as highs reach to about 60 degrees.
Moisture remains somewhat limited, but it looks like patchy rain and showers are likely overnight tonight and into Monday. The short wave that will help produce the showers does move through fairly quickly so the best chance to see showers should come before noon. The forecast becomes somewhat tricky after that as the upper flow sets up with a southwesterly component. This will bring Pacific moisture into and across the Southeast US while a frontal boundary is expected to stall in the area. This pattern will put rain chances into much of the forecast for the next week, but it will not be raining all the time. Looks like the best rain chances come Thursday and Friday and perhaps again Sunday.
The southwesterly flow aloft also means that our temperatures moderate so we will be in the 60s for the week ahead with the possibility of reaching to around 70s – maybe even the lower 70s – for Wednesday and Thursday. These temperatures will be a tad warmer than our 30-year averages for early December, a nice change from the cooler pattern we’ve seen for the last several days.
Rainfall amounts for late tonight and Monday will probably be less than a third of an inch for those that get rain. There is potential for 1 to 2 inches Wednesday through Friday with the deeper moisture coming out of the Pacific and the stalled frontal boundary in the area.
Hurricane season ended yesterday. SPC has no severe weather areas outlined for the next three days.
Looking into Week 2, a strong trough comes by around the 10th and then we fall back into a southwesterly flow with a trough along the eastern side of the Rockies. This once again looks somewhat wet. Temperatures will vary a good amount with some cooler days around the 10th and 11th but a fairly quick warm up with the southwesterly flow.
