RIGHT NOW: A very nice day across Alabama with ample sunshine and temperatures mostly in the low 60s. However, clouds are increasing over East Alabama as the CAD (cold air damming) pattern develops. We figure clouds will increase tonight statewide. There might even be a touch of light or drizzle over the eastern half of the state after midnight, or early tomorrow morning.

TOMORROW: The sky will be generally cloudy; the best chance of getting some sunshine will come over the western half of the state. Highs will range from the mid 60s over West Alabama to the mid 50s near the Georgia border.

FRIDAY: The wedge breaks down, and we will be warmer statewide, with an afternoon high between 67 and 70 degrees. We might see a peek of sun, but the sky will be generally cloudy. The day Friday will be dry, but a few showers could arrive Friday night. Seems like the best chance of rain will come after 9:00 p.m., but a shower can’t be totally ruled out earlier in the evening in a few spots.

ARCTIC SHOT FOR THE WEEKEND: Saturday won’t be a “Chamber of Commerce” day. Cloudy, windy, and sharply colder. We will maintain the chance of a some light rain at times, and it now looks like a little light rain or drizzle could linger into the afternoon. Nothing heavy, and a decent part of the day will be dry, but just keep in mind you will deal with some rain at times.

Strong north winds will develop Saturday afternoon, and I still expect temperatures to fall from the 50s during the morning hours, into the 40s by afternoon. Those winds of 12-22 mph will make it feel colder. Bottom line is that the day looks cold, raw, and damp.

Sunday will be brighter, but still breezy and cold. We start the day in the mid 20s, and the high Sunday afternoon will be only in the mid 40s with a stiff north wind. But, the day will be sunny.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: UAB has a game tomorrow night at Legion Field against the Rice Owls, the game kicks off at 6:30 CT. The sky will be mostly cloudy, but we don’t expect any significant rain. Temperatures will be comfortable with a kickoff temperature near 58 degrees, falling into the mid 50s during the second half.

Showers are a possibility for Friday night’s high school football playoff games with a cloudy sky and temperatures in the 50s. But, the latest guidance hints the rain could hold off until after 9:00 for places like Tuscaloosa/Birmingham/Anniston/Gadsden. Higher chance of rain for the games will be north of Birmingham, especially north of U.S. 278.

Saturday, Alabama hosts UT-Chattanooga at Bryant-Denny Stadium (1:00p CT kickoff); the afternoon will be cloudy, cold, and windy with temperatures falling from the low 50s at kickoff into the 40s during the second half. North winds will average 12-22 mph, and the latest data suggests we might see a little light rain during the game, but nothing heavy or especially widespread.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: We begin the week with a cold morning early Monday; most places will see a low well down in the 20s, with teens possible for colder valleys. Monday’s high will be in the 47 to 50 degree range. Then, a low in the Gulf of Mexico should bring a soaking rain to Alabama Tuesday. No severe weather, but a good rain event with about one inch likely statewide. Heavier amounts are possible near the Gulf Coast.

Then, on Wednesday, another shot of cold air drops into the state as the rain moves out. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS tries to bring a little light snow down into North Alabama Wednesday, but we will discount that solution for now as the cold air/moisture combination doesn’t look sufficient for snow. Don’t expect to get out of the 40s Wednesday.

TO THE EAST: A major East Coast storm is possible Wednesday with lots of rain and wind, and this could impact air travel from Washington to New York City and Boston by Wednesday night. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps.

Here in Alabama the weather looks rain-free with a good supply of sunshine Thanksgiving Day, “Black Friday”, and “Iron Bowl Saturday” with a warming trend… we could reach the 60s by the day of the Iron Bowl in Auburn.
