QUIET AFTERNOON: After a few morning sprinkles, we have a pretty decent amount of sunshine across Central Alabama this afternoon with temperatures generally in the 69-73 degree range. Clouds linger over parts of Northwest and Southeast Alabama, but those will move out tonight as a new surge of dry, chilly air drops into the state.

TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: Sunny days, clear cold nights. Tomorrow morning will feature lows in the 40-45 degree range, but despite full sunshine, we will have a hard time getting out of the 50s during the day with a chilly north wind of 10-20 mph. We go down into the mid to upper 30s at daybreak Thursday and Friday with potential for frost on both mornings.

SATURDAY MORNING FREEZE? Still looks like a low in the 27-34 degree range early Saturday morning, and many locations will experience their first freeze of the season well before the average date of November 9.

The weekend will feature bright, sunny weather Saturday and Sunday. The high Saturday will be in the low 60s, followed by upper 60s Sunday. Sunday morning will be cold again with some frost possible.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS shows a vertically stacked low over South Mississippi by Wednesday night and Thursday, which would suggest a good rain event here for Halloween. With the surface low being south of here, severe weather would not be an issue with this setup, but there is no way we can resolve the specific details so far in advance. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Lorenzo, in the Central Atlantic, is packing sustained winds of 50 mph, but is moving east and is no threat to any land area. It should become post-tropical this weekend over cooler water. And, over in the East Pacific, Hurricane Raymond has sustained winds of 90 mph off the coast of Mexico; it is moving west and will move away from the Mexican coast.

GULF COAST WEATHER: The sky will clear this evening on the coast, and we project sunny days and clear cool nights from Panama City to Gulf Shores tomorrow through Sunday. Highs will be mostly in the 70s, with lows in the 50s. Some 40s are possible on the coast early Saturday. The sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 73 degrees.
