Saturday was a gorgeous day with a cool start but a warm afternoon. Today we see much the same weather, but an approaching front will bring a mixture of sun and clouds to our sky. The slight wedge pattern with the high centered off to the northeast of us will keep the temperature in check with highs mainly in the upper 70s with western sections a tad warmer perhaps reaching the lower 80s. The front is expected to wash out as it loses the upper support. But that means we’ll need to include the possibility of an isolated shower or two driven primarily by the heat of the day. I think most of us will stay dry for the upcoming week until the next system arrives probably on Saturday.

A little weakness in the upper pattern will help to generate a few more showers along the Gulf Coast for the early part of the week.

The next system shows a pretty vigorous short wave aloft with a fairly strong front. The front should trigger our best rain chances on Saturday, but the front is still not expected to be accompanied by a major air mass change, so we should only see temperatures drop a little.

Looking ahead into week 2, also known as voodoo country, the pattern remains fairly quiet with a general troughiness developing over the eastern half of the country.

Tropics have become a little more active. A depression is churning in the Atlantic where it is forecast to stay, and it is forecast to gain some strength so it could become Jerry later today. An area of disturbed weather in the Central Caribbean is forecast to develop little as it moves generally northwestward for the next couple of days. It could become a tropical storm after that as conditions become more favorable for development, and it could become Karen. What little guidance there is suggests it coming up toward South Florida.
