Another Summer-like Day

Looks like another warm summer-like day for Central Alabama as highs climb once again into the lower 90s for most locations. There should be plenty of sunshine for the day with only a few afternoon clouds.
The upper ridge is expected to move over the area from the west on Monday and Tuesday, so we may see an isolated shower or two on Monday and Tuesday, but most folks will remain dry. The air becomes slightly drier at mid-week so I think we should be dry on Wednesday and Thursday. But a strong trough will dig into the eastern US by Friday which should bring a cold front down into the area. The front should become a focus for scattered showers, but it still does not appear that this is going to be the first big front of the Fall just yet. Temperatures will fall somewhat as we see highs next weekend in the middle 80s with lower humidity as dew points dip to near 60.
Unfortunately, the GFS has backed off from a substantial front signaling a seasonal change in the long range. The week 2 period or voodoo country remained dominated by general upper ridging for the Southeast with a significant trough in the western US. This would mean no big air mass change just yet.
The tropics are still relatively quiet. A strong wave just southeast of the Cape Verde Islands remains the most potent area for tropical storm development as NHC puts the probability for development in the next 5 days at 90 percent. The disturbed area north of Puerto Rico which is the remnants of Gabrielle remained disorganized.
