Warm Afternoons, Pleasant Nights

DRY IS THE WORD: Absolutely nothing on radar over the northern two-thirds of Alabama this afternoon. Birmingham reports 88 degrees at 2:00… but the dewpoint is a low 58 degrees, making the humidity only 36 percent.
Tonight will be pleasant with lows well down in the 60s; the cooler pockets will visit the 50s again for a nice taste of fall.
We stay dry tomorrow and Friday, with ample sunshine both days and a high in the 87 to 90 degree range.
OUR WEEKEND: Dewpoints will begin to rise, so humidity levels will be higher Saturday and Sunday. But, there is no real forcing mechanism for rain, so we don’t expect anything other than very isolated showers. The sky will be partly sunny both days with a high around 90 degrees.
NEXT WEEK: Not much change…. the primary jet stream remains to the north, and any showers will be very widely spaced Monday through Wednesday. Afternoon highs will be in the 87 to 90 degree range. A very calm weather pattern.
TROPICS: Sure looks a tropical depression is trying to form just southeast of Puerto Rico… if something does get it’s act together there, it will turn north toward the open Atlantic; it is no threat to the Gulf of Mexico or the United States. The rest of the Atlantic basin is pretty quiet for September.
GULF COAST WEATHER: About 5 to 7 hours of sunshine can be expected each day through the weekend, with a few scattered showers and storms each day. Highs along the immediate coast will be in the upper 80s, with low 90s just a few miles inland. Sea water temperatures are running mostly in the mid 80s from Panama City over to Gulf Shores. We do note that purple flags are flying on the Alabama coast due to a marked increase in jellyfish over the past 24 hours.
