Cold Front Getting Closer To Alabama

| September 2, 2013 @ 3:31 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today… we will be back on the “two a day” schedule tomorrow**

QUIET AFTERNOON: After a healthy round of rain and storms this morning, it is mostly dry across the northern half of Alabama this afternoon…

The heavier storms, as you can see, are down around Dothan.

TONIGHT AND TOMORROW: A surface front northwest of the state will bring another round of showers and storms. We note a band of showers and strong storms ahead of the front this afternoon over Tennessee, and those will move into extreme North Alabama this evening. Seems like the main window for rain and storms for North/Central Alabama will come from about 10:00 tonight until 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. Winds will veer around to the north early tomorrow, and by afternoon the best chance of showers and storms should shift down into South Alabama. Any afternoon showers for the North/Central Counties will be few and far between. The high tomorrow should be in the upper 80s.

WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: Dry air takes over… look for sunny days, clear cooler nights, and low humidity levels. The high will be in the 87-90 degree range, with lows down in the low to mid 60s; cooler pockets should reach the 50s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: A short wave might kick off a few isolated showers Saturday, but the air will still be pretty dry, and it doesn’t look like a big rain event. Sunday should be generally dry as well; highs over the weekend will range from 86 to 89 degrees with a partly sunny sky both days. The quiet weather should linger into early next week.

TROPICS: There are several disorganized waves across the Atlantic basin….

The wave moving into the Caribbean has some chance of development, but dry air and interaction with Hispaniola will be a problem. One way or another, it will turn north well before reaching the U.S. mainland…
