WeatherBrains 392: Do Pigs Ears Have Ear Wax?

| July 30, 2013 @ 5:10 am

WeatherBrains Episode 392 is now online (July 29, 2013). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

Tonight’s Guest WeatherBrain is the founder of MemphisWeather.net, owner of Cirrus Weather Solutions, LLC, and senior aviation meteorologist with FedEx Express in Memphis, TN, Erik Proseus. Erik is good friends with David Drobny @NashSevereWx and they benchmark regularly as our social media work is very similar. Erik covers the 8-county Memphis metro on the web, mobile web, mobile apps, and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Blogger) from a hyper-local perspective under the MemphisWeather.net (MWN) brand. MWN has over 14,000 fans on our Facebook and Twitter accounts alone and they use social media to nowcast every severe weather event that affects the metro (for over 3 years now), and nearly every rumble of thunder. They also have a social media spotter program with NWS-Memphis that is very similar to the one David organized in Nashville.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • Extremes: 111 at El Centro NAS, CA, and Thermal, CA, and 29 at Stanley, ID
  • Flash flood problems in Central US
  • Lightning intense out West and over Mexico
  • Remnants of Dorian passing north of Puerto Rico
  • Heat across western states
  • Trivia: Name two towns in US with weather connotation
  • and more!
  • Our email bag officer is continuing to handle the incoming messages from our listeners.

    From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: Squall line or QLCS, this discussion came up last week. So for this episode we peek into the origination of these, and what the differences might be.

TWIWH: Bill Murray does a weather trivia contest that does stump some of the WeatherBrains gang.
