QUIET DAY SO FAR: As expected, the pre-dawn storms really worked over the atmosphere across the northern half of Alabama, and most of the really active weather is west of the state and moving away from us. Nothing is showing up on radar around here as of early afternoon. We will maintain the risk of a few showers or storms later, but they should be few and far between. The high for most places will be close to, or just over 90 degrees.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: I really don’t think the weather changes much tomorrow. High resolution model data shows only widely scattered storms tomorrow afternoon; the sky should be partly sunny with a high in the low 90s. Then, the coverage of the showers and storms should be a bit higher on Saturday and Sunday as the air aloft becomes a bit colder, and the air a little more unstable. Still, the sun will be out at times over the weekend, just be ready to dodge the occasional shower or thunderstorm. Highs over the weekend should be generally in the upper 80s.

NEXT WEEK: Not much change. Each day will feature a mix of sun and clouds with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible. No way at this point to try and resolve which day will have the higher coverage of showers. Afternoon highs should be mostly in the 87-91 degree range, which is below average for late July in Alabama.

TROPICS: A weak tropical wave is moving through the Caribbean with no sign of organization, and tropical storm formation is not expected across the Atlantic basin this week.

AT THE BEACH: About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine daily, with scattered storms possible, through the weekend. Highs will hold in the upper 80s on the immediate coast, with low 90s inland. Sea water temperatures are in the low to mid 80s.

WEATHER RADIO HELP: We will be at the Rock Creek Pharmacy today (in the western part of Jefferson County) from 3:30 until 6:30… if you need your weather radio programmed, help in general, or need to buy one, then come out and see us. I will be live on ABC 33/40 from the site at 4, 5, and 6:00.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
